Britney Spears returns to court in guardianship case

Judge Brenda Penny is expected to consider multiple petitions filed since the case’s last hearing on July 14.

Jamie Spears, the singer’s father, has been her conservator. since 2008. Earlier this month, he applied to terminate the guardianship. His presentation followed two powerful days of testimony from the pop star this summer in which he detailed numerous personal restrictions that he has lived with under the agreement he described as “bloody cruelty.”

“I just want to get my life back. It’s been 13 years and that’s enough,” Spears said in June.

Mathew Rosengart, the singer’s attorney, has asked the court to remove Jamie Spears as curator. In a court file obtained by CNN on Monday, Rosengart stated that his client’s father should be investigated for allegedly placing a recording device in his home, according to a report from The New York Times.

A lawyer for Jamie Spears did not respond to a request for comment on those allegations, but in a recent statement to CNN said that he “loves his daughter without question.”

Britney Spears has virtually attended previous hearings, telephoning. It is not known whether he will appear in person at Wednesday’s hearing.

The #FreeBritney movement, organized supporters of the singer who have been advocating for the end of her guardianship, will be outside the courthouse holding a rally.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm EST.
