Chris Eubank Jr against Anatoli Muratov will now take no place at SSE Arena, Wembley tonight.
Sky Sports Saturday Fight Night continues with a packed undercard featuring the European title clash between Avanesyan and Taylor, the English Title Eliminator between Germaine Brown and Jamal Le Doux, plus stars Richard Riakporhe and Ebonie Jones.
Muratov is unable to fight in tonight’s fight with Eubank Jr after the British Boxing Control Board (BBBofC) raised concerns about pre-fight medics.
Since the health and safety of our boxers are a primary concern and the time remaining does not allow the possibility of finding a suitable quality replacement opponent, the fight has been called off and Eubank will not appear on tonight’s undercard.
The highly anticipated European Welterweight Championship bout between David Avanesyan and Manchester’s Liam Taylor has been elevated to the top of the stacked card that includes the English super middleweight title eliminator between Germaine Brown and Jamal Le Doux; the exciting return of Britain’s most exciting cruiserweight, Richard Riakporhe; the professional debut of elite amateur Ebonie Jones; the return of cruiserweight talent Mikael Lawal; dynamite striker Joe Pigford; rising middleweight star Linus Udofia; hot-headed super bantamweight prospect Alireza Ghadiri and undefeated flyweight Harvey Horn.
“Obviously, we are all disappointed that Chris Eubank Jr. will no longer be able to compete on tonight’s card, but it is important to make the right decision in the interests of the health and safety of the fighters. We are grateful to the British Boxing Control Board for the standards they employ to protect that, ”said BOXXER’s Ben Shalom.
“My thoughts are with Chris, who has been through a very difficult time lately. He will come back stronger and remains a key figure in Sky Sports plans. Chris will be back with a great fight in the coming weeks.
“Tonight’s undercard is still packed with great fights from top to bottom, including the fight for the European Welterweight Championship in the main event, the elimination fight for the English super middleweight title between Germaine Brown and Jamal Ledoux and the Return of Cruiserweight Prospect Richard Riakporhe “.
Adam Smith, Head of Boxing for Sky Sports, said: “I feel very strongly that, first and foremost, the health and safety of all fighters is paramount.
“We are very disappointed in Chris Eubank Jr, who has a great role to play in our new era at Sky Sports Boxing, and will be returning on one of our shows in the coming weeks.

Kalle Sauerland, Head of Global Boxing at Wasserman, said: “It is an extremely unfortunate situation for Chris. However, the health and safety of the boxers is always our main concern and at this late stage it was not possible to find a suitable replacement.
“I know Chris was looking forward to fighting tonight at The SSE Arena, Wembley and starring as the new face of Sky Sports Boxing. We are already in discussions about a new date for Chris and fans can look forward to seeing him back in the ring very soon. “
