“My mom, I’d say … she didn’t quite get it. I don’t know if she thought it was something of a hippie thing,” he recalled.
Jost admitted that even after finalizing the name at the hospital, his mother was still trying to convince them to change it.
“He would call us after three or four days, say, ‘Cosmo,'” Jost said. “And she’d say, ‘And now, is it final? Like, did you send the birth certificate?’ And we thought, ‘Oh yeah, we did it at the hospital.’ She said, ‘Okay, interesting. Because I was reading that there’s also a name Cosimo with a’ I ‘, so that might be an option too. Maybe Cosimo, that’s his real name, but then you can call him Cosmo ‘. “
Jost said that after talking to some neighborhood friends on Staten Island, his mother learned that there were many more Cosmos out there.
“Over time, he began to meet various members of the Italian community who have many relatives of Cosmo,” he laughed. “Then she would call and say, ‘I met someone, they said her uncle’s name is Cosmo. So that’s okay.’
Cosmo is the first son of Jost and the second of the Marvel star. She also shares her 7-year-old daughter Rose with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac.
Jost confirmed Cosmo’s birth in a lighthearted social media post at the time. He wrote, “Okay, okay, we had a baby. His name is Cosmo. We love him very much.”
