NBC this Tuesday night invited you to a land in Australia, that is, far below Los Angeles – with La Brea. Did the drama in the sinkhole suck? you on?
La Brea stars Natalie Zea (Justified) as Eve Harris, an office manager and mother who was driving past La Brea’s Museum and Tar Pits with her daughter Izzy (played by Zyra Gorecki) and son Josh (Jack Martin) when a huge sinkhole began to form in an intersection, first swallowing hard. a scared traffic cop and then spread out to tear the Earth out from under many buildings and cars. After driving back down a sidewalk (!), Eve and the kids got out and ran, but when Josh was knocked down by the stampede, Eve doubled back. As such, they both fell into the sinkhole, despite Izzy’s best efforts to get her mother to safety.
Returning after landing safely … somewhere… Eve searched for Josh amidst a vast expanse of trees, fields, and hills. First, he ran into a man we knew as Ty (Chiké Okonkwo), who was holding a gun (for reasons to be revealed later). Their meeting was interrupted when Eve saw smoke in the distance, and ran into a clearing to find Josh and many others, in addition to vehicles, street signs, parts of buildings, etc. There, while people were trying to understand what happened / where they were, we met stoner Scott (Rohan Mirchandaney)… teenage girl Riley (Veronica St. Clair) and her doctor / ex-SEAL father Sam (Jon Seda)… and the cop Marybeth (Karina Logue) hogging the protein bars.
Josh and Izzy’s father, Gavin (The night shiftEoin Macken), asked for a favor to obtain a prior interview at the Air Force Base in El Segundo, with the desire to be close to his children, explains, who recently moved to LA Thing is, the 20-year career of Gavin. as a pilot he ended unceremoniously when, after an accident in the desert, he began to “see things.” Just as Gavin leaves the meeting, news breaks out about the sinkhole, which Gavin heads to after a panicked Izzy calls him out. Seemingly able to get within a reasonable distance of this natural disaster that jams Los Angeles traffic (!) And after easily passing barricades and a policeman (!!), Gavin finds and hugs Izzy, just as a flock of birds big and menacing flies off. sump. Gavin and we had seen this type of bird before in one of his headache “visions.”
Dr. Sophia Nathan of Homeland Security gives a presser near the sinkhole, saying there is no hope of finding survivors of such a fall. (Later, she taunts an associate that she was unwilling to reveal the “truth” about what happened.) Gavin, coming out of a new “vision” in which he saw Eva and Josh in the same area as the primitive bird, insists to Dr. Nathan that there are is it so survivors. When later reciting the tail number of the drone DHS piloted in the Northern Lights (but eventually crashed into the sinkhole), Nathan pretends not to be convinced, but privately nudges a Markman agent into the 411. to this man.
Later, determined to test his theory, Gavin finds an old photo of him and Eve on the large rock in his vision, one with the symbol of a handprint. Then he drives to said rock and starts digging. And just as Izzy and her Aunt Jessica (Ione Skye) arrive to ask what the hell she’s doing, Gavin discovers the wedding ring necklace that Eve always wears, but was lost during her fall into the sinkhole!
While searching for supplies, Riley and Scott discover
Statues of the Virgin Mary bricks of heroin inside the trunk of a car. Meanwhile, Eve and Josh have just arrested Marybeth for hoarding protein bars when a growling dire wolf appears. They run towards the camp, where a second wolf appears. As everyone runs for cover, Scott logs off when Riley begs him to let her into a car, so she gets underneath. A wolf attacks and bites Josh, before Ty uses his weapon to take down the beast. Sam tends to seriously injure Josh the best he can inside an inverted bus, but he needs antibiotics, needles, and other supplies. Eve remembers seeing an ambulance fall down the gully, so when it gets dark (don’t get me started on Hollow Earth “sunsets”), and with the help of the suicidal Ty, they locate the vehicle a mile away. As they do so, Eve looks at the silhouette of the Hollywood Hills in the ambulance logo … and realizes that it matches the hills in the distance. “I think we’re still in Los Angeles,” he surmises, just as a saber-toothed tiger confronts them!
As Eve stated in the final seconds, “We to run”, Natalie Zea advances for TVLine. “We had already seen the wolves [that attacked the camp], but the saber tooth is the first time they meet an animal that has been extinct long ago. That’s when the moment of ‘We’re not in Kansas anymore’ really solidifies. “
Speaking of “No Kansas” how it is that Eve, Josh, Sam, and others apparently landed so gingerly on the ground, after falling into the deep, deep sinkhole?
Faced with that burning question, Zea shared: “The cast has a theory! But it may be a spoiler. But yes, we had asked about the survival criteria, because not everyone who falls into the hole does it…. We have some theories, but I don’t know if they are accurate, and I think the audience may decide. “
