With The sopranos prequel movie The many saints of Newark almost here, fans have been wondering if there is a possibility of newer Sopranos Projects. Both the film’s director, Alan Taylor, and the series creator, David Chase, have spoken of being open to expanding Tony Soprano’s story, and Michael Gandolfini has spoken of wanting to play his late father’s iconic character again. But in a new interview with Uproxx, Gandolfini explains that he is only interested in playing Tony in his teens and early 20s.
“I’m not that interested in playing 30-year-old Tony,” he says. “I think if there is an interesting part after this movie, before the show, we can explore something about Tony that has not been explored, in his youth, in his 20s. After that, we are getting a little older. ”
It’s understandable, given that Tony, in his 30s, is too close to Tony’s age. The sopranos. While it helps that Gandolfini is James’s son, that doesn’t mean he will grow up and look like a divided image of his father. As Gandolfini explains, “My dad really explored and David explored all of it. So is there a time limit for other movies? No, no so much. But as I get older, there is a limit where he naturally enters the program. “
It seems that Chase wants to stay in young Tony’s world a little longer, without reaching adulthood. In a recent interview with Deadline, said it is considering writing a sequel “with Tony in his 20s” which would show what happens after the events of The many saints of Newark. “It would be interesting to do that, and there are a lot of stories that already exist because of mythology, and to work with [Sopranos writer and executive producer] Terry [Winter] It would be great, ”he said. “Me and him in that world again, I think we would have a good time. I wouldn’t do it on my own and I wouldn’t do it with anyone else. If Warner wanted it, they own it, they can do whatever they want. “
