Netflix presents the most popular shows, movie list

Netflix has shared data confirming its most popular TV shows and movies for the first time.

According to reports, the streaming service’s Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos took the stage during the Vox Media Code Conference to reveal the roster. It released two slides with ratings, both recorded within the title’s first 28 days, based on the number of accounts that clicked and streamed the title for a minimum of two minutes, or the total amount of time it aired.

Sarandos confirmed that the first season of Bridgerton it was ranked number one for the most popular television series in both rankings. Extraction emerged victorious as the movie with the most clicks while Birdbox it was number one in terms of viewing hours. Other shows and movies that made the top 10 include Lupine: Part 1, The Witcher: Season 1, Money Heist: Part 4, Army of the Dead, Murder Mystery and Confidential Spenser.

“We are trying to be more transparent with the talent, with the market,” Sarandos said, adding that the platform’s streaming data is “a big black box, mostly.” He also confirmed that Squid is currently on its way to becoming Netflix’s most popular series. “We didn’t see it coming, in terms of its global popularity,” Sarandos admitted.
