Nintendo has confirmed plans to expand Super nintendo world, its recently opened theme park at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, with a new Donkey Kong area. The news is not exactly a surprise: construction already seems to have been going for some time.
Images released by Nintendo confirm that, as speculated, the Donkey Kong area will be accessed through a large round gate that already exists in the park, which is currently almost entirely Mario-themed. The zone will be a significant addition that will increase the overall size of Super Nintendo World by about 70 percent, according to Nintendo.
The Donkey Kong area will include “a roller coaster, interactive experiences, and themed food and products,” Nintendo says in a statement. “Visitors will be able to take a walk on the wild side through the lush jungles where Donkey Kong and his friends live.” Nintendo goes on to describe the area as “a game changer combining innovative technology and the globally popular approach to theme park entertainment.” from Universal with the creativity of Nintendo. “
“I’m very happy to be able to bring the world of Donkey Kong to life by following Mario’s world,” says Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo, who created the characters for Donkey Kong and Mario. “I am looking forward to creating an exciting Donkey Kong experience with the amazing team at Universal. It will take some time to complete, but it will be a unique area not only for people who are familiar with Donkey Kong games, but for all the guests. “
The new area is planned to open in 2024, at which time it is expected that it will be possible to travel to Japan. Nintendo themed areas are also in the works for Universal Studios Orlando, Hollywood and Singapore parks.
