PlayStation Studios acquires Manchester-based Fabrik Games • Eurogamer.net

Joining former Sony Liverpool talent as part of Firesprite.

Firesprite, the large Liverpool-based team bought by PlayStation earlier this month, has expanded further with the acquisition of Fabrik Games.

Fabrik will now become part of Firesprite and increase their overall roster to 265.

Firesprite was formed from the remnants of Sony Liverpool, which PlayStation closed in 2012. It has now quietly grown to become one of the UK’s largest development teams, and has found itself again as a studio of its own.

Adding Fabrik’s team to Firesprite makes perfect sense: the former was separated from Firesprite by his boss to develop indie games, though he ended up working with Firesprite on his recent project The Persistence.

“I am delighted to announce that we will reunite Fabrik Games and Firesprite as part of our exciting next step with PlayStation Studios,” Firesprite boss Graeme Ankers said today.

“They are a passionate and committed team of developers, led by industry veterans who have worked on many AAA franchises. We look forward to reinforcing our creative talents as we continue our journey to deliver truly unique experiences for PlayStation fans.”

It is not yet known what Firesprite will work on next as part of PlayStation Studios.

Sony also recently acquired Housemarque and Nixxes, and teamed up with Jade Raymond’s new studio, Haven Entertainment, to build a new IP. Who is the next one?
