October is shaping up to be a busy month on Steam. Earlier today the last game demonstration event started (here are the 13 best Steam Festival demos) and at the end of this month they will carry out another Digital Tabletop Festival. Like last year, it is a celebration of sale and live streaming of games inspired and adapted from board games. This year, the event will be supported by role-playing games, including a chat with the people behind both. Disco Elysium and Baldur’s Gate 3 when it starts later this month.
This year’s Digital Tabletop Fest will run from Friday October 22 to Sunday 24. Like last year, it will increase sales of games and some live-streamed chats with developers. Valve is rolling the big dice this year, attracting developers from Larian Studios from Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Baldurs Gate 3 along with Zaum Studio of Disco Elysium fame.
Perhaps both are quite far on the end of the allowed spectrum of “inspired by” board games, but I imagine that the chat will be particularly interesting to listen to. Matthew Castle had a very good interview with Larian on Baldur’s Gate 3 in June 2020 and while it’s outdated now it’s a really great listen. I imagine that we will have a much more enlightening discussion on game design during their panel on the 23rd. The people of Zaum have always been very good to listen to as well in my experience, so I hope a lot of good from their talk that starts the event on Friday 22.
In another part of the full agenda, you can see panels dedicated to Dungeons & Dragons, the Game Of Thrones digital board game, the World Of Darkness stage, and more.
You can tune in to the Digital Tabletop Fest panels as they kick off with Disco Elysium on Friday, October 22 at 6pm BST (10am PDT).
