It’s time to stop looking out of other people’s windows to see what they’re watching on Netflix. If you want to know which movies are popular, just check out the list of top 10 Netflix movies. Netflix’s top 10 movies list for Friday, October 1 looks a lot like yesterday’s list, with only a few movies swapping places. That is likely to change tomorrow with today’s release of Jake Gyllenhaal’s new thriller, The blame. But will Jake dethrone Britney? Britney vs. Spears remains in first place for the third day in a row, with the new horror movie Nobody gets out alive closing the gap in seconds.

But which of the movies on Netflix’s 10 Most Popular Movies list are really good? We break down the full list of Netflix’s top 10 movies and walk you through which binges and what to skip. We do the same for Netflix’s Top 10 TV Shows, as well as the overall Netflix Top 10 list. We also have a list of the top 50 shows and movies to watch on Netflix right now, as well as the best movies on Netflix and the best TV shows on Netflix.

Based on the Netflix Top 10 of Friday, October 1

1. Britney vs. Spears

For fans of: The Britney Spears Guardianship Case | It’s fine?: It is the weakest of all Britney documents so far.

If you feel there has been a lot from Britney Spears documentaries recently, you’d be right. (In particular, Spears not a fan of them.) Netflix’s offer to the conversation is Britney vs. Spears, which has to do with Spears’ much-publicized struggle to escape her father-led guardianship, but the problem with this is that she has nothing new to say in a genre that is rapidly becoming saturated. Even the biggest Britney fans I know are skipping this one, and you can too. (Yesterday’s rank: 1)

2. Nobody gets out alive

For fans of: The class division, the immigrant experience | It’s fine?: It will scare you down to your pants

A Latin American immigrant looking for work and housing in the United States is staying in a pension where things are not haunted, if you understand me. It is a great jewel of terror that takes advantage of the experience of immigrants and the difficulties that the poor have with their basic needs. (Yesterday’s rank: 2)

3. My Little Pony: A New Generation

For fans of: Ponies, reboots of beloved childhood estates | It’s fine?: The kid in your life will probably love it.

You remember My Little Pony? That’s it, but now all the ponies look like today’s big-eyed Disney characters and Vanessa Hudgens voices one of them. Specifically, she plays the new pony in town, who wants to help restore magic in Equestria. Hope the bronies are really enjoying this one. (Yesterday’s rank: 3)

Four. The adults

For fans of: Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, Kevin James, Rob Schneider | It’s fine?: It is certainly a movie

This is one of those “Adam Sandler needed some money to add an extra wing to one of his many houses” movies. It’s about four childhood friends (played by Sandler, Rock, Spade, and James) who reunite after their high school basketball coach dies. I haven’t seen him in many years, but the most important thing I remember about him is a scene where Kevin James urinates in a public swimming pool and turns the water blue, so that’s the kind of thing to expect from this one. Did you know The adults came out 11 years ago? Just something to think about. (Yesterday’s rank: 5)

5. Starling

For fans of: Melissa McCarthy, birds | It’s fine?: It is a failure

I just want Melissa McCarthy to star in things that are worthy of her talent, is that too much to ask? Starling, a movie about two parents (McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd) grieving over the loss of their son, it just isn’t. It’s not the impossible-to-see mess that some of his other recent movies have been (ahem, Thunder force), but it’s just a big, predictable snooze. On the bright side, Timothy Olyphant and Kevin Kline appear in supporting roles. That’s all I have here! (Yesterday’s rank: 4)

6. Intrusion

For fans of: Predictable turns, home invasions, did we mention predictable turns? | It’s fine?: No!

Frieda Pinto plays a woman who moves from the big city to an amazing new house in a small town with her husband, but their lives take a turn for the worse when a home invasion ends in death. AND THEN truly predictable things start to happen! If you haven’t predicted what will happen midway, congratulations on seeing your first movie. (Yesterday’s rank: 6)

What to watch out of the top 10 Netflix TV shows

7. Alive

For fans of: The voice of Lin-Manuel Miranda, singing animals | It’s fine?: It’s cute!

Lin-Manuel Miranda lends his voice to this film about Vivo (Miranda), a Kinkajou who spends his days playing music in Cuba with his owner, Andrés (Juan de Marcos González). When Andrés’s ex-partner announces his farewell concert in Miami, Vivo decides to travel there to help reunite the two. (Yesterday’s rank: 7)

8. Home

For fans of: Rihanna’s vocal styles, cute aliens | It’s fine?: It’s a sweet movie

This is a classic buddy comedy about a girl (voiced by Rihanna) who teams up with an alien (voiced by Jim Parsons) to try to find her mother (voiced by Jennifer Lopez). Aliens in Home I definitely feel like knockoff Minions, but it’s an adorable movie nonetheless. (Yesterday’s rank: 9)

9. Safe house

For fans of: Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds, Central Intelligence Agency | It’s fine?: It’s okay

Ryan Reynolds plays a CIA officer tasked with taking care of an international fugitive (Denzel Washington), but after the two are attacked by mercenaries, they are forced to do so, did you see it coming? – work together to survive. (Yesterday’s rank: 8)

What to see from the general Netflix Top 10

10. Kate

For fans of: Killers, death sentences, Woody Harrelson | It’s fine?: It should be, but it’s kind of boring

You’d think a movie in which Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays a murderer with 24 hours left to live, who decides to spend to get revenge on her enemies, would be a bit more exciting. You’d be wrong: this is a sleepyhead despite the violent action. (Yesterday’s rank: 10)
