The Los Angeles Lakers are just days away from opening their preseason schedule. Repeat it to yourself. Go ahead, take your time. We almost made it. In a few days, we will finally see LeBron James, Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis on the court in Lakers uniforms. Wild.
So since this is the latest Lakers-specific podcast on the SSR Podcast Feed, this week’s “I Love Basketball” will focus on what to watch on Sunday when the Lakers take on the Brooklyn networks. Sabreena Merchant and I started with, well, the entrees.
First, we gave the lineups that we would like to see as they tend to be different from the lineups that actually start the games. Then we predicted the lineups that we will actually see on Sunday and then gave reasons why it is something to watch out for.
From there, we explain another reason to pay close attention to the minutes James, Westbrook and Davis share on the court. It’s pretty simple: habits.
The first preseason game with new teammates is like the first day of school. When we were kids, we’d do our hair, put on our best clothes, get there early, all that good stuff. Over the course of the school year, bad habits appeared, but that first day, our best foot was forward.
In this case, we can look forward to seeing what things James and Westbrook are especially trying to focus on as they learn to play together.
In the second half of the show, Sabreena and I remember the illustrious career of Pau Gasol, given that today the news has fallen that this Tuesday he will officially announce his retirement. We could have talked about Pau for hours, really. Congratulations on an amazing race, Pau.
And for a short-form summary module, see Lakers Lowdown, in which Anthony Irwin recaps the news of the day before and prepares you for the day that awaits you at LakerLand, every weekday morning at the Silver Screen & Roll Podcast Feed.
